  • Day 3: Istanbul / Bosphorus
    The colorful Spice Bazaar

Continue your tour of Istanbul. Begin with the Underground (Basilica) Cistern, one of several hundred cisterns that lie beneath the city. This 6th century cistern was built during the time of Byzantine Emperor, Justinian. It was originally intended to provide water for the entire city. Watch out for the droplets of water that may fall on your head as you walk through! Next you will have free time to look around the noisy and colorful Spice Bazaar (often referred to as the Egyptian Bazaar). The massive vaulted ceilings give the market a cavernous feeling, yet the dense crowds make navigating it an interesting challenge.

  • Day 4: Cappadocia
    Your Gamirasu Cave Hotel

Fly to Cappadocia, and meet your guide at the airport before transferring to your hotel. Embark on a private Cappadocia tour. Begin with the Three Sisters Fairy Chimneys in Urgup, one of the most unique sights in the world. These volcanic formations are riddled with manmade holes that many pigeons call home. The pigeons are historically significant to the Cappadocian people because they once served as messengers. The pockmarked, lunar landscape combined with the rugged terrain is both interesting and exciting to hike! Later you will visit the Kaymakli Underground city, an eight-level deep maze of tunnels and rooms. The city was used as a hiding place for Byzantine Chistians from Persian and Arabic armies. There are over 200 underground cities in Cappadocia, but Kaymakli is the deepest.
